How to Play Teen Patti (Flush)

What is Teen Patti?

Teen Patti is a popular game in Nepal that originated in India. Teen Patti, also known as flush or flash, is a combined variant of Poker and Three-card brag. Teen Patti means three cards in English as three cards are dealt to each player in the game. In this article, we’ll go over the key concepts of Teen Patti, how the game is set up, and how you can play the game legally and safely in online casinos.

How to Play

Step 1: Placing an ante

A starting pot is created through each player placing an ante or boot on the table. An ante is a mandatory sum each player must contribute to the pot before dealing with the cards. A little wager guarantees each player will have an early stake in the game. It is a small sum compared to the bets that will be made during the hand.

The purpose of the ante is that even if every player folds, it still creates a pot to play for. By increasing the pot size, it contributes to the game’s excitement and reward. Since players have already contributed to the pot, it motivates the Teen Patti enthusiasts to play more hands.

Step 2: Receiving your cards

Like Poker, Teen Patti is also played with a 52-card deck, excluding the jokers. The dealer deals three face-down cards to each player. In online casinos such as MCW Nepal, the computer distributes the cards.

Step 3: The first round and blind betting

A blind bet, often called a forced wager, is usually placed into the pot in the first round of Teen Pattibefore the deal begins in an effort to replicate wagers placed into it during play by one or more players. The player on the left of the dealer is the one who starts the betting.

The players have the option to fold (give up) or play “blind,” that is, without looking at their cards. If they play blind, they have to place a stake, typically not much. The betting goes on clockwise, and players can fold or play blind.

Two blinds are used in the most popular betting structure: the player who places the blinds after the dealer blinds half of the amount that would normally be bet (small blind), and the person who places the blinds after that places the full wager (large blind). The prevalent structure in play is this two-blind format, occasionally with antes.

Step 4: The following rounds

The player may play blind for the duration of the hand if they want to. If they wish to examine their cards, they can choose to play “seen” (look at their cards). A wager, typically greater than the blind bet, must be placed if they play seen.

In the following rounds, if he is playing blind, the player has three options: fold, call the ante, or raise to double it. If he is playing seen, he has three options: fold, call to double the ante or raise to double it. This will be referred to as a stake, regardless of the wager he chooses to place.

Each player will have the choice of folding, calling, or raising as a blind or seen player while moving in a clockwise direction. The current stake established by the previous player and whether the current player is blind or visible determine how much a player can wager. It is either 1x or 2x the stake if blind and 2x or 4x the stake if seen. In the event that the previously acting player plays “seen,” the stake will always be deemed to be half that of a previously acting player who is blind.

This is known as call and raise and is also referred to as “chaal” in Nepal.

Step 5: Demanding a showdown

The betting continues until only one player is left, and the rest have packed. Regardless of the cards held by the last player, they win all the money in the pot.

In case of more than one player, one player pays for a “show” on their turn. The two players’ cards are revealed and compared, and the higher-ranking hand wins the pot. There are certain rules for a “show.”

Rules for a sideshow or show:

  • A Show can only have two or more players in it.
  • For four times the current wager, the seeing player may request a show with the blind player.
  • Any player may request a show by paying double the amount of the existing bet if both are visible.
  • Participants who have abandoned their hands or folded are not allowed to participate in the Show.
  • The highest hand wins the pot when the remaining players show their cards.
  • In the event of a tie, the winners split the pot evenly.

Ranking of hands

There is a ranking system to decide which player wins the pot. The different categories are listed ranked highest to lowest:

Playing Cards

1. Three of a Kind (Trio):

Three same cards (Aces highest, Twos lowest). Three cards of the same rank.

2. Straight Flush (Pure Sequence):

Three consecutive cards in sequential order, same suit (A-K-Q highest, 4-3-2 lowest)

3. Straight (Sequence):

Three consecutive cards in sequential order, different suits (A-K-Q highest, 4-3-2 lowest)

4. Flush (Color):

Three cards of the same suit (High card wins, then suit ranking)

5. Pair (Double):

Two cards of the same rank or same cards (Higher value wins, then the third card decides)

6. No Pair (High Card):

The highest card wins, then the next highest, and so on.
